Field Trips
Join ASCE on Wednesday, April 3rd as we travel to St. Louis
for a Seismic Retrofit Tour.
We will be touring the seismic retrofit being implemented on US
40/64. This
is an excellent opportunity for all civil engineers so mark your
calendars now.
The trip will be all day and free.
Transportation will also be provided.
The deadline to reserve a spot is Friday, March 15, so email
Peter (byler@uiuc.edu)
as soon as possible.

CON-crete
Canoe
Regionals are fast approaching for the Concrete Canoe team, but
they’ve managed to cast the concrete over the mold.
Thanks to all the volunteers who gave a Saturday to mix and mold
concrete, but the work isn’t finished.
Concrete Canoe will continue meeting every Tuesday and Thursday
at 7pm in the Crane Bay. Over
the next several weeks, we will be sanding the concrete on the mold to a
smooth finish, writing the technical paper, and constructing and then
decorating the frame like a jail cell.
We also look forward to painting the canoe in about a month and
volunteers are welcome. Good
luck at regionals! If you
have questions, email Gen (glong@uiuc.edu)
or Mel (mkwhite@uiuc.edu).
It’s
Not Exactly Rocket Science…
…But that
doesn’t make it easy. Steel
Bridge has only a few weeks left before regionals so help is needed.
If you are interested in becoming part of the construction team
or have any other questions, email Nathan (nholman@uiuc.edu).
Shadow
an Engineer
The deadline has passed for Shadow an Engineer over Spring break, but we
did have three people sign up. If you are still interested in shadowing later in the
semester or have any questions about the program, email Gen (glong@uiuc.edu).
ASCE
Social Events
The Eweek bar crawl was a huge success thanks to Julia, our Social
Chair, and all her hard work and planning.
And weren’t those Bar Crawl shirts great?
Bar Crawl pics are online so check them out at www.uiuc.edu/ro/asce.
ASCE has many other social events planned for the remainder of
the semester including a possible rock climbing trip to Vertical Plains,
another Bar Crawl, and a camping trip.
And if you like free breakfast, watch out for more Donut Days.
If you have questions or ideas, email Julia (jmachuca@uiuc.edu). |
