1st ASCE General Meeting
Wednesday, September 18th
6pm in 1320 DCL

Welcome back, CEE’s!  From all of us on the ASCE Executive Board, we wish you a happy and prosperous semester.  We are looking forward to all the ASCE activities this year, as we hope you are too.  For all the freshmen and transfer students, please do not feel intimidated by ASCE.  We’re nothing more than a group of Civil Engineering students that wish to be active in the Civil Engineering department and profession.  If you’re wondering why you should be a member of ASCE, there are tons of reasons:

  • ASCE sponsored competitions, like Steel Bridge and Concrete Canoe

  • Guest speakers at each General Meeting discuss the civil engineering profession

  • ASCE sponsored social events, community service events, and field trips each semester

  • The ASCE résumé book, which is distributed to engineering firms around the state

  • Membership in the student chapter makes you eligible for free National Membership

  • ASCE membership makes you eligible to run for the Executive Board

  • Free pizza at all the General Meetings

  • And TWO Bar Crawls every semester

Come to the General Meeting to see what we’re all about!

A Message from our King of All CEE’s
Welcome everyone to a new year of exciting events in the UIUC ASCE student chapter. As you may have read in the 04September Benchmark, I staged a bloody coup this summer to “assume the position” of president.  Henceforth, please refer to me as “Highness” or “Your Grace” or simply “Oh captain, my captain.”  This year we expect to win the national steel bridge and concrete canoe competitions, as well as winning the Chicago marathon, the Nobel Prize in literature, and the Academy award for best instructional language video. Please join ASCE on our website. Please stop by or email me with any questions or comments.  Study hard, and relax harder.

Hooray for school,

…then Steel Bridge is for you.  Designing, fabricating, and constructing a steel bridge can be tough.  That's why we need you to come and help!! The first general meeting is at 6pm on Thursday, September 19th at 1233 Newmark in the crane bay. Come for new friends, fun and experience!  Contact Jenny (jacarey@uiuc.edu) for more information.

On the good ship…
If you missed the kick off meeting for the Concrete Canoe team on September 12th, e-mail Sarah (selowe@uiuc.edu) for info on how you can get involved with ASCE's concrete canoe project. Concrete Canoe: build a boat, get dirty, and make some CEE friends.
