Was
this company a good match for your interests?
The company was a good match because I was really interested in shadowing and a structural
company. Although, I would've been
a little more interested in a
company that worked on more large scale projects.
What
were some of the topics or ideas discussed?
Some of the
topics we discussed were the type and range of projects that their company was
involved in. We talked about what
they were involved in from start to finish of a project.
We also met with an architect at the company, who is a U of I graduate,
we discussed the different classes he took and tried to give me some guidance
with that.
Were
there any special activities planned for you?
Had the
weather been nicer, we were going to go to a project site.
Since we were not able to that we mainly stayed in the office and I
worked with several of the engineers, in order to see the variety of jobs that
go on with one project.
Would
you recommend this program to other students?
I would definitely recommend this program to other students! It was great to talk to the
engineers at the company and get their prospective on things like classes, job
searches, and a lot more. It is
also it is a good way to possibly get your foot in the door for possible
internships for the future.
Comments/Suggestions:
I was glad I participated in the shadowing experience, but I wish the company I was going to
had a shadow before me. When I was
there the engineer that I followed
for most of the day, didn't really know anything about the shadow program or
that I was coming to shadow him, so at first we were kind of really looking for
something to fill the time. Overall
though, I still learned a lot from the experience.
